Class administration and eligibility

If, after reviewing the YFA Training Philosophy and course descriptions in the Course Offerings (see index to the left), you wish to enroll in a class, please contact the class coordinator listed under CONTACT INFORMATION on our YFA Schedule and send an application and deposit to secure a space in the appropriate class. The class coordinators are experienced individuals who can answer most questions about the class and what is required of the participant including range location and lodging for those attending classes outside their home areas.

The cost/fee for the YFA 3-day formatted courses is $575.00 per student (depending on time of registration - please see "Class Fee and Deposit Policy" page) with a $300.00 deposit in advance required with the application The fee structure covers most of the courses listed in our brochure regardless of level (Stage I or II). Some of the specialty courses have differing rates. The fee covers YFA instruction and target systems. The participant/student is expected to supply his/her own equipment including firearm, holster/sling, ammunition (see ammo requirements in course descriptions) etc. The required deposit is fully refundable if course participation is cancelled 45 days in advance, or may be applied towards a future class at the client's option. For cancellations that occur less than 45 days in advance, the deposit is NOT refundable (this will NOT apply to courses cancelled by YFA).

Individuals interested in YFA courses often ask about eligibility requirements. That is answered in two parts, general requirements by new, first time individuals to take any YFA training and specific prerequisites to take Stage II, advanced level courses. Much of our training is by contract with military and law enforcement organizations, and eligibility will be the responsibility of the contracting entity in conjunction with YFA. In all other instances where new, first time participants, regardless of affiliation, want to take a course, each person will be asked to provide the class coordinator with some information and proof of good character indicating that the individual is legally able to possess the firearm that is the subject matter of the training. Law enforcement and military/government participants will be asked to show appropriate credentials and identification. Civilians may use a valid state concealed carry permit or self-requested criminal background check. These examples are not exhaustive, and the coordinators can help in addressing and fulfilling the requirements. New entrants into YFA Stage II courses without YFA Stage I training will be with the prior permission of YFA. There are many fine training programs and excellent instructors other than YFA that can provide a person with the requisite fundamentals for Stage II training; however, YFA will grant permission on a case-by-case basis in conjunction with the coordinators, taking into account each person's background. If permission is granted, it will be the responsibility of the participant to keep up with the Stage II syllabus as a class will not be held back due to weak fundamentals.

We encourage you to use the class coordinators as an information resource for any questions. We are also happy to answer questions directly by telephone, mail or email. Please understand that our response time may be delayed for up to a couple of days if we are in a class or training cycle and because of time zone differences.
